The day-to-day practice of prison nursing is diverse, working within a multi disciplinary team, to deliver high quality care
Responsibilities often include;
- Assisting in the running and development of services including nurse led clinics, triage on the wings, vaccination programmes, health promotion and supporting patients with long term conditions
- Participating in prison specific procedures such as cell risk assessment
- Undertaking patient assessments upon initial entry to the prison
- Working effectively as part of a wider team and in close liasion with mental health and substance misuse teams
- Attending emergencies within the prison and providing advice and treatment for patients with minor illness and injuries
